favourite music video analysis - See You Again

What is the Genre of the Video?

 Pop/Rap
Is there a typical narrative?
 The narrative is based upon the life of Paul Walker who in fact died. This song if therefore a tribute to him and shows his life throughout the music video.
What is expected in the video?
 I would expect frequent scenes of Paul Walker as this song is a tribute to him. I would also expect the video to be slow paced to emphasise the impact of the song.

What is unexpected in the video?
 I think that the video itself used clips from all the Fast and Furious films to create a story of Paul Walker from his films which was unexpected.

There is no links to other music videos however, there are links to other aspects of media (obviously, film) as this was a tribute to Paul Walker.





NARRATIVE:

What is the storyline of the video?
 The storyline of the video is based on Paul walker life or evolution throughout the Fast and Furious films as that is how he was known best.

Is there a theme?
 The theme in this video is cars. As Paul Walker was a massive car fanatic, this benefitted the video as it helped towards the tribute and loss of him.

Is there a recognisable structure (TODOROV – Equilibrium 5 stages)?
 No there is no recognisable structure as this music video has a very good narrative and is based on a tribute to Paul Walker. There was a huge disruption because of the death of Paul Walker but the equilibrium can never be the same because of the death.
Are there recognisable characters?
 Even though Paul Walker has died, he could still be a hero to many based on the films he made. There are no evil characters or villains in this video.
How does the video reflect the lyrics?
 The lyrics reflect the video as they are about the losing someone and that you will see them again

 It is hard to understand the representation of the characters in which have the most prevalence throughout the music video. However, it is clear that they must have been friends of representing friends of Paul walker.

There are no clear stereotypes within this music video. However, the main rapper in this music video has tattoos and is of an ethnic minority in which could stereotypically be the usual appearance of a rapper.

 They have been constructed to show emphasis and fame. However, they have been constructed to show fame so that more audiences are attracted to them so more see the video.




Do they have an anonymous role in the video or are they there as celebrity?
They are both there as a celebrity as they have more prevalence and performance shots to show they are celebrities in the video.

 The video is set at the top of a hill in which features in most of the fast and furious scenes. This is very important as this video is a tribute therefore a lot of scenes from the Fast and Furious film franchise is in this video therefore this connotes friendship as all of the clips as of family and friends.

A lot of vibrant colours are used to help with the loss of Paul Walker and also to lighten the mood and remind people of who he was and how he played the part of Brian in Fast and Furious.

 It does help the story unfold however, it usually cuts to and from the artists in this video not necessarily help the story unfold.

 This video is targeted at pop fans and Paul Walker fans. Therefore, the audience is very wide for this music video.



This video is a tribute to Paul Walker therefore, this attracts a much wider range of people who may want to view this music video.
